A pomeranian that makes you take breaks.

Pawse sits in your menu bar and counts. Every 45 minutes, or whenever you say, a real dog blocks every screen for 30 seconds, tells you to walk and drink water, asks if you are happy, and leaves. You cannot argue with him. You can hold ESC.

How a break goes

1

He arrives

Your screens dim behind a translucent layer. A pomeranian fades in, sits, and stares at you. Your keyboard stops mattering.

2

Thirty seconds

The thought bubble says what he thinks: walk, water, breathe. A gold ring counts down. That is the whole job.

3

One question

"Are you happy?" Yes gets zoomies and hearts. Not really gets a head-tilt and a paw hug. Your answer stays on your machine.

4

He leaves

The overlay fades, your work is exactly where you left it, and the menu bar quietly schedules the next visit.

Make it yours

Your schedule

Every N minutes, or fixed times like 10:30 and 15:00. Pause for an hour from the tray when life happens.

Your words

The bubble says whatever you write, one message per line, rotating. Default: Hey Hooman, take a break.

Your rules

Break length, sound, launch at login. Hard mode turns the ESC escape hatch off entirely. Brave.

Your dog

Film your own dog, run the two scripts in scripts/, drop three clips in a folder. Now it is your dog interrupting you.

Install

macOS

Homebrew is the no-fuss path (Intel and Apple Silicon). It clears the download quarantine for you, so you never see a warning.

brew tap anishfyi/tap
brew install --cask pawse

Prefer the universal DMG? If macOS says "damaged" (it means unsigned, not broken), run once:

xattr -cr /Applications/Pawse.app

Windows

Download the installer and run it. If SmartScreen objects: More info, then Run anyway.
